The key objective for SAP with the acquisition of Fedem is to bring together SAP’s and Fedem’s capabilities to build an End-to-End IoT solution, leveraging Newtonian Physics to bridge the gap between the Digital World (IT) and Operational Technology (OT).

Through the SAP Fedem solution, a digital real-time representation of a physical system will be maintained in the SAP Cloud. Feeds from sensors, coupled and enhanced with Fedem’s computer code will enable the asset owner to replace physical inspections with “digital inspections” of the asset.

In addition, the solution will consider complex forces in play and detect both instantaneous consequences of one-off events and long term health effects of cyclic loads, setting the stage for new ways of managing assets. The corresponding stresses and fatigue, and their impact on the system, will facilitate not only accurate monitoring of maintenance requirements, but also lifetime prediction of the asset. By mirroring the physical state of the object, the product will in the long run enable self-diagnosing, self-repairing, and self-regulating systems. This opens the path to higher efficiency, improved safety, less downtime and lower costs.

Fedem will give an overview of the technology behind the SAP Fedem solution, present a demo use case, and outline how this approach will offer a new level of control and understanding within the area of asset integrity and -performance monitoring.
