Ides’ MasterConcept supports
Ringhals’ RPS project

Ringhals nuclear power plant is going through an enormous transformation. Great investments will result in higher security and better environmental qualities in the plants. In the end Ringhals will be able to produce 4 TWh more than today, when Ringhals’ four reactors produce around 28 TWh in a normal year – sufficient to supply six cities the size of Gothenburg with electricity.

By increasing the capacity, improving efficiency and creating conditions to ensure a high and constant production in the plants, Ringhals will have a production increase.

New demands from the Swedish authorities assume that the facility now must be able to withstand incidents which it from the beginning was not design to do. This has led to a need to upgrade Ringhals 1.

The project RPS, Reactor Protection System which started in 2004, will contribute to improved and extended separation of e.g. control equipment and power supply to safety related systems. This project takes full support from Ides MasterConcept.

Ides’ MasterConcept gives Ringhals unique support through the entire plant life cycle
Thanks to the structure handling in MasterConcept, which has full support for IEC 81346, Principle for structure handling, Ringhals has unique support through the entire plant life cycle. They can organize all documentation and objects for best security and plant reliability. For even better integration of business processes during the plant life cycle, there is also a possibility to easily exchange information with other systems such as PDM or ERP.

Example of structures:
The topographical structure (++) describes where for example a certain equipment is to be found. Is it in building A, floor 3, room 1023, it will have the following structure:
++A.3.1023

(If an object from another structure has ++A.3.1023. then the dot means that the object "belongs" to the room or is in the room. This can also apply for other structures.)

The power function structure (= = =) describes for example from where the power supply comes. Is it from Plant 1, Incoming E, system 1, transformer T1, Switchgear 211 and Busbar WA1, the structure will be as following:
= = =1.E.1.T1.211.WA1

The control function structure (= =) describes for example where the instrumentation is connected. Is it in station 1, system 506, processor PMA23, rack 1, I/O-card DO1 and channel 1, the structure will be:
= =1.506.PMA23.1.DO1.1

Other structures in the system are Process function, Location and Control. A feature in MasterConcept allows the user to hide unused structures. This makes it easier to find in and to work with the system.

Even more Ringhals projects
In Safety project 2 a new cooling system is built with two new cooling tracks from the sea (the North Sea and Kattegat) to the condensation pond at Ringhals 1. This cooling function is used e.g. by the yearly outage for maintenance and refuelling, when you temporarily shut down the facility and this needs to be cooled down.

The project TWICE, Ringhals TWo Instrumentation and Color Exchange, at Ringhals 2 was started in 1999. During the project Westinghouse has been the main supplier and ÅF a sub contractor. The project involved upgrading of monitoring and control equipment and a completely new control room with digital technology. The project involved handling of 35 000 documents in the form of electrical diagrams.

Ides’ MasterConcept is a software product suite and is based on technology from world leading vendors such as Autodesk Inc. and Oracle Corporation. Data and drawings can be created traditionally in the CAD environment in elMaster/proMaster design. Master Explorer is partly used as a navigation tool for all plant structures, data and document. Here you can create and handle all plant data such as object information, revision- and document handling as well as connection handling.

Another part of the transformation at Ringhals is the modernization of the turbine facilities, and a simultaneous increase of the electricity generation at Ringhals 3 and Ringhals 4. Alstom Power Sweden AB in Norrköping has been commissioned to deliver steam turbine- and generator equipment to these two units.

Ides is a very proud supplier to Ringhals and we are also pleased that our system MasterConcept is fully utilized in the RPS project at Ringhals 1”, says Stig Hellholm, Vice President R&D, Ides AB.

About Ringhals
Ringhals nuclear power plant is the largest electrical factory in the Nordic region, producing 20% of all consumed electricity in Sweden. The plant is situated approximately 60 km south of Gothenburg. Ringhals is owned by Vattenfall (70,4%) and E.ON Kärnkraft Sverige AB (29,6%).

About Ides MasterConcept
Ides MasterConcept consists of powerful software for design and handling of plant data within electricity and process. MasterConcept supports the complex plant structuring process concerning objects and documentation – from project start to maintenance.

Ides’ system offers support for the complete chain from Manufacturing and EPC (Engineering Procurement Construction) to OO (Owner Operator). By using the traceability in the system, the user is able to see if something has been added, removed or changed in the system. The dynamic data in Ides’ DPR will give the user the exact information he/she needs at all times in order to be able to handle the plant documentation in a safe way.

Ides MasterConcept offers support to all personnel; for maintenance as well as for electrical and process design. The products within the MasterConcept are based on technology from world leading providers, such as Autodesk Inc., Oracle Corporation and Microsoft.

About Ides AB
Ides AB, a Swedish company group, offers a plant design system, PDM, powered by the strengths of Autodesk- and Oracle platform technologies. In 1993 started the development of a database driven design in close cooperation with all Swedish nuclear power operators. The result is a completely database driven engineering environment for both new design and redesign. Ides’ most famous product is software for electrical design - elMaster, existing on the market since 1985. Ides AB is Autodesk ISV Partner, Autodesk ADN Member, Oracle Partner, Microsoft Partner, BI-Cycle Partner and IFS Business Partner.

Globally over 3500 users use Ides’ system as the major system for integrating data into the business processes. Ides' system is used by all the Swedish nuclear power plants (OKG, Forsmark and Ringhals), SKB (Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Co.), ABB Group, SSAB, Scania, Areva, ALSTOM, AKZO, Ineos, Bombardier Transportation, Westinghouse and municipal energy plants WuJing Power Plant, Mälarenergi and Göteborg Energi.
